St. Luke's Cuts Ribbon for New Orthopedic Center

St. Lukes cut the ribbon on their new Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in Boise today, February 8. Chief Operating Officer for the Center, Nicole Brown says doctors working at the orthopedic and sports medicine center will be able to focus on patient outcomes and collaborate with colleagues to create stronger care plans.

Construction for the Center began in 2018, and went through several delays, though Brown said those delays were motivated by coronavirus pandemic related closures, which allowed St. Lukes to take a more deliberate approach in designing their new center.

The Center will focus on out-patient procedures, transitioning surgery from multi-day, overnight affairs, to ambulatory, outpatient procedures wherever possible.

"Five or ten years ago, joint replacement surgeries could take days to recover from," Dr. Buzz Showalter said. "Now, we can get those procedures done in an ambulatory setting or keeping patients for no more than 24-hours."

Such advances in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine motivate Showalter to bring those practices to the Treasure Valley and create a standard for orthopedic care that will grow into what he hopes is one of the Pacific Northwest's most advanced facilities.

The center will contain operating rooms, rehab centers, and orthopedic urgent care, and an in-house pharmacy.

The Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine will be open to the general public later this month.
