First photo: Ian Gentil surfs through the barrel of a wave at the Banzai Pipeline on Tuesday as the Lexus Pipe Pro, the first stop on the World Surf League Championship Tour, resumed on Oahu’s North Shore. Gentil defeated Japan’s Kanoa Igarashi 10.67-5.40 in the round of 32 before topping California’s Griffin Colapinto 9.17-6.60 to set up an all-Maui quarterfinal with Imaikalani deVault. The two Valley Isle surfers advanced at the same time, with their round-of-16 heats being contested concurrently. Two other Maui surfers, Eli Hanneman and Jackson Bunch, were eliminated in the round of 32 earlier in the day.
