Canyon County passport applications taking several months to process

The Canyon County Recorder’s and Passport Office said Monday that passport applications are taking longer than usual to process.

If you want a passport, you should plan 6 months in advance to make sure you get it on time. Recent data from the State Department shows that it now takes about 18 weeks from when a person applies to when they receive their passport.

For expedited passport services, the processing time has been extended out to about 12 weeks.

“We want the public to understand the delays we are currently experiencing in our passport office and encourage them to plan six months ahead for any international travel,” said Public Information Officer Joe Decker. “Even the expedited process is taking up to three months, so people really need to plan in advance if they need a passport.”
